Whether your planning a wedding, looking to elope or just want a magical place to escape to it has something to offer to all. It is often a busy place with not a lot of options for lodging it is an island after all so it will definitely take some planning. So great resources to check is the visitors bureau or my personal favorite check out the available airbnbs locally. Many people bike most places on the island or take the local transit but be sure to check the schedule it only runs May - September if your trying to keep more on a set schedule and want more freedom in your explorations then I'd recommend catching the ferry with your car. Whether you live locally or flew in your going to want to head to Anacortes, and take the ferry to Friday harbor. Your not required to make a reservation, and in the off season you don't need one as the schedule is on a first come first serve bases. But take my word for it when I say if it's during peak time your going to want one! Reservations with vehicles only cover one way so you'll need to make a reservation for going, and coming back. Either way make sure you are at least 45 minutes early to get in line. Ferry's often can be late or run into scheduling issues so make sure you sign up for alerts.
Once you've made it to the island there are so many things to explore. You'll find two separate marinas teaming with there own surroundings, and experiences. Lavender farms, where you'll find all kinds of yumminess such as lavender ice cream, lemonade, coffee, and more. Not to mention its the perfect photo op! You can even have pictures done in your wedding dress among the lavender. The island has vineyards, loads of delish farm to fork food. If your looking for something with vegetarian, vegan, or gluten free options I'd highly suggest checking out Mikes café and wine bar. It's super cute the staff is knowledgeable, and the food is amazing. Several parks, and of course lighthouses. Its the perfect destination wedding location. Perfect honeymoon spot, and perfect escape! Depending on the size of your event there are a few different locations I'd recommend. However I will say there are a few locations on the island in general that I'm a little partial to. Breathtaking views, outdoors ceremony options as well as indoor reception space, and lodging. The offer several different packages and accommodate to events both large, and small. If your looking to keep it a little more on the simple side were you can have guest or not then check out Lime Kiln Lighthouse. That's right you can get married at the lighthouse and they will actually close the lighthouse to the public when you book it, and as you'll see from the photos below this is what this amazing couple decided to do.
